"Church Folk Be Choosin"..

I know I know I know, from the title you're probably thinking, "what the hell is she about to get at?"

I'll tell you exactly what I'm about to get at....... I'm about to get at the TRUTH.

The TRUTH is, we all believe in a higher power so whoever told you that YOUR god was better than my god really lied to you.

What's prompting this? Well last week I got attacked by a group of die hard christians who told me that I was going to hell because I don't live, eat, breath, and sleep, the Holy Bible. I spit out my water while laughing at my phone screen but then my anxiety began to speak. "What if you are actually doing this wrong Imani?", I thought. Then God himself, herself, itself (still trying to figure that out) spoke to me and said, "you're doing this PERFECTLY". My mind was instantly eased and I went on to defend myself and my beliefs under the post.

The problem is though, I really shouldn't have to defend my beliefs. Personally, I'm not buying the Jesus Christ story and I'm not sorry if that offends you if you just read that and judged me. You see, I'm a free thinker, a non conformist, and I don't just believe everything I'm told because it's what I've been taught. I've been taught a lot growing up, some good and some bad. One thing this life has taught me is GOD is real.

I struggle with who and what God is because I often refer to God as the Universe but I've been so programmed to think that God is a white man with blue eyes and blonde hair, that sometimes I feel guilty for thinking that God is not even a "he". The thing is, I wouldn't even have to feel guilty if church folks weren't such bullies. I mean seriously, why can't I speak freely about what I believe the same way you do? Why can't I post about my truth without being attacked the same way that you can?

Church folks are hypocritical for the most part if you ask me. They CHOOSE what parts of the bible that they want to live by and turn a blind eye to the parts that aren't so convenient. Funny thing is, so do I. I read the bible and I take the good from it as I do any other book, but the bible is NOT the answer to my life or its problems.

People assume that because I don't identify with a religion that I don't have a relationship with God and I think that is the most absurd thought ever. If I did not have a relationship with God I would not have beaten every single odd against me. If I did not have a relationship with God, my suicide attempts would have worked. If I did not have a relationship with God, all of those times I was stealing food to eat, I would have gotten caught. If I did not have a relationship with God, each time I lost a job, I wouldn't have found another one. If I did not have a relationship with God, I wouldn't have a thriving business that grows despite every effort by outside forces to end me. If I did not have a relationship with God I would not be here.

But I do have a relationship with God, and GOD told me to tell YOU the reader, that it doesn't matter who or what you think God is, God is real. God is real to you whether you attend a church or whether you meditate and pray daily. God knows your heart. God knows your thoughts. God knows your desires. As long as you have a desire to be the best you and stay connected to the higher power driving this car called LIFE, you're going to be okay. Don't let these church folks bully you. God got you, PROMISE.

Sending Love & Light,
