Lost Motivation is a GOOD Sign

What do you do when no matter how much you try to work towards a better overall life, you constantly find yourself taking three steps back? I’ve learned that in those moments it’s time to regroup, reevaluate, and redo your game plan.

Doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results is literally INSANITY, so no wonder you feel depressed when you don’t seem to be getting things done. The thing is, you actually are getting things done, you just need to change your perspective. During those times when you don’t feel creative or you’ve found yourself on day 12 of procrastinating you should be surrendering to these feelings. This is your brain telling you that it is tired of forcing itself to focus on things that don’t actually matter right now.

Excuse me? How does my business /degree/baby/husband not matter to me?

Pipe down sis, I’m not saying that the most important things in your life don’t matter to you but I am saying that something else matters a little bit more right now. There is a reason that you have not been able to stay focused on your goals. That reason is your negligence to yourself. You don’t listen to you. You force yourself to do things that you don’t want to do because you think it’s what you’re supposed to be doing.

For example:

When I first started SimplySoulSistas I wanted to incorporate a YouTube channel on the website. I wanted my personality to shine and I wanted to be seen and heard. I kept ignoring the fact that I was not actually naturally a camera person and that YouTube truly was not my lane. As a result, I stressed myself out and compared my YouTube channel to other channels I was seeing girls my age doing and it immediately caused me to be filled with self-doubt. “You’re not putting the work in and it shows”, I would think every time I looked at someone’s intro video and compared it to my basic, rushed, attempt at a channel introduction.  I then gave up all together on YouTube and found myself bitter anytime I saw a friend at the time posting videos that always seemed to get views. It was not until I started to do more of what comes effortless to me that I found a way to share my personality and be heard through writing. This is when I created the Wellness Tea blog and I have successfully found MY lane. I would probably still be forcing a YouTube channel if I did not decide to just listen to myself and channel my energy elsewhere.

If you are finding yourself in a slump because your life seems to be at a standstill, your goals may not actually align with who you really are and that's a GOOD thing. It’s okay to reinvent yourself because that is the ultimate expression of growth. So embrace the funky feelings you’re having because it’s time to clean up. That doesn’t mean covering the odor with a temporary fix that smells good either. It means taking the time to get to the root of the problem and ridding yourself of the funk for GOOD.

We all get down, but what is most important is that we get back up. Whatever you desire is YOURS as long as it is truly what you desire. You will never know what you truly desire until you become honest with yourself about who you really are. That takes a lot of self-reflection and honesty with yourself.  If at the end of your self-reflection you end up saying to yourself, “this isn’t even my calling”, know that you are on the right path to figuring out what IS your calling.

Don’t force things in life. Let them flow and if it does not flow, let it GO.
