You were not born to live a mediocre life.

January 31, 2018

Oprah Winfrey said if first and best, “do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do”. My question to you is, will you be doing what you have to do for the rest of your life or will you commit to living out your full purpose for being on this earth? Tonight’s post is going to be about living a mediocre life, something NONE OF US were put on this earth to do. So many of us fall into the trap of working to live instead of living out our dreams and letting the work you put in to live out your purpose pay the bills. Are you afraid you’ll fail? Chances are in the beginning you just might but as long as you know your true purpose for being on this earth, you’ll make it to the top in the end.

Ask yourself this question, what is my purpose in this life? I know that when I graduated college and explained to some people that I graduated with an English major, psychology minor, they probably assumed “she’s lazy and didn’t want to work too hard”. Little did they know, being an English major is ALL writing papers and my major helped me to hone my talent of writing and moving one with words. I know that my purpose in this life is to motivate others to find the lion inside of them and to tell my story. I plan to do this through writing books and motivational speaking. I didn’t know my purpose in life when I first graduated and planned on being a teacher or writing for a newspaper (things I do still wish to do and will do, I actually have both jobs lined up for this year). Although I will still do the things I planned to do after college the reason I haven’t yet is because life hit me like a ton of bricks and I was forced to do NEITHER of those things and ended up being a trainer for a collection agency after losing my first post college position. Nothing seemed to be going according to the 10 year plan I made for myself but one thing I never know how to do is give up.

I began to talk to God more and I asked him to make it clear to me why I was going through hardship after hardship when all I wanted to do was be able to make ends meet and be able to go to brunch from time to time but that’s when the voice inside of my head began to yell at me. “YOU ARE NOT MEANT TO HAVE AN AVERAGE LIFE AND UNTIL YOU COMMIT TO LIVING OUT YOUR PURPOSE YOU WILL ALWAYS STRUGGLE !” I knew what I had to do. I had to find the courage to do exactly what my 7 year old self said I wanted to be one day, an author. That’s when I began to write my book and while I was writing my book I realized I had more work to do as far as living out my purpose. That is how I came up with the idea to form my own business and how I built this this platform that you are reading this post on today.

I know now that as long as I continue to tell my story and inspire others to live in their purpose I will always be happy and the money will soon come. I will work the 9-5 until my books get on the best sellers list and SimplySoulSistas has our own physical store but best believe, I will not live a mediocre life forever. I am not mediocre and neither are you! Now enough about me, let’s get back to you. What is that thing that makes you forget time when you’re doing it? Is it writing? Is it singing? Is it dancing? WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY? In order to begin to live out your purpose you have to first know what that purpose is and if you have to write it down in order to be able to see it, I suggest you do it. Think long and hard and take a day or two to map out what your perfect life would look like and after you do so, tell yourself “I will stop at NOTHING to get here”. This will be the day you choose to live in your purpose and each day you will wake up excited to get to work because you will know what you are working for. You will no longer be working to make ends meet, but to give your contribution to the world. We all have something to give to the world and we can all get paid for it, we just have to believe in ourselves.

I believe in my ability to write books about my childhood, life experiences, and black feminism, and I will make money while doing it. I believe in my dream of being a motivational speaker, I know that I inspire women on the daily and I won’t ever begin to question that being one of the reasons I was put on this earth because I took the time to think long and hard about this. I want whoever is reading this to get to this point because once you get here it’s only up from there ! I challenge you to start off by asking yourself those two questions, “what is my purpose?” and “what makes me happy?”. After you have the answer to those questions your next question is your why. Is it your parents? Your child? Do you just want to prove to the world that you can be somebody? Whatever your why is, it needs to be what fuels and feeds you when you get tired and you want to go to sleep without reading a few pages a day or working on that thing that will help you achieve your dreams. I tell anyone who will listen, reading helps you GROW. Reading helps you LEARN. Reading is for the successful. Start off with motivational texts and then move to texts that are specific to YOUR dream.

I’m going to end tonight’s rant by begging you to write down your purpose and what your perfect life will be. Ask yourself, “who am I not to be the best version of myself?” I bet you $100 you won’t have a real answer to that last question because you have absolutely no right to not be great when you already are, just pull it out of you ! See you next Tuesday.

I love you sis,
